Scarlett Grace McCarthy is a Los Angeles-bred and Brooklyn-based playwright.
Her plays include BURY ME IN MY LEGGINGS (The Tank’s LadyFest, Dixon Place), You Are Glowing (Echo Theater Company, NYU), GIRLS TO THE FRONT (semifinalist for the Fresh Ground Pepper PlayLab & Berkeley Rep. Ground floor), What's Up America? I'm Reptilian (The Dirty Blondes, Undiscovered Countries), and Fantomina (Dixon Place, NYU). Her monologue “Consultation” was commissioned by the Echo Theater Company for a collection of monologues aimed at sharing the work of emerging writers with young people.
Her work deals with the anger we feel toward ourselves and each other. She is especially interested in seeing women experience rage on stage and examining how she (and the women she knows and the women she loves) exact control over their bodies through diet and exercise.
She is a graduate of NYU, where she studied Dramatic Writing and Gender and Sexuality Studies.
